Ernest Stone was one of the best black-ops members the military has even seen. After years of service and several successful missions that will forever remain classified, he retired to the great state of Texas where he makes a living as a strategic motivational speaker.
Well. Not really.
Really, this good ole boy is still doing secret missions for the United States. He's just more off-the-books than ever before. His contact, a man known as Father, is one of a handful that knows of his active status. Father assigns him the missions and Ernie gets the job done. That's just how he likes it.
That doesn't keep him from trying to pick up a date. Problem is, he can defuse a bomb and speak numerous languages, but he can't figure out how to talk to women.
Not until he goes on a secret mission to stop an assassination in Lebatnia, a Pacific Island country where mineral rights are going to the highest bidder. His female contact there, a beautiful agent working directly for the Island's President, connects with Ernie just fine.
Things start happening between the two of them even as people start turning up dead and the President gets shot. The President survives, but now Ernie has even less time to figure out who the assassin is, and stop them before the next shot does the job.
Sometimes, he really wishes he could tell Father he's not taking any more of these high-risk jobs. Especially when they turn into One of Those Days.
